There are a few things that mosquitoes find attractive. Identifying those points of attraction can allow you to better protect yourself and your family from the blood-sucking insects by undertaking mosquito control plans.

Here are a few things that can entice mosquitos to you or your home in FL.

1) Blood Types & Alcoholic Beverages: If you’re sweating or have had a couple of adult beverages, you can attract mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are frequently drawn to certain blood types, particularly Type O.

However, mosquitoes are attracted to more than just blood type. When you are outdoors of Fort Myers, FL, use mosquito repellent, wear long sleeves and pants, and apply burning citronella oil.

2) Perfumes & Scented Lotions: Mosquitoes are known to be attracted to fragrances. Floral smells are particularly appealing. Certain aromas can make you attractive to mosquitoes. What type of fragrances is there? Typically, it is any floral odor. Mosquitoes, after all, aren’t just drawn to blood; they also feast on plant nectar.

If you want to wear smells with flowery aromas, you might want to avoid them if you spend the day outside in Fort Myers, FL.

3) Dark Clothing: Mosquitoes are more drawn to dark colors, according to research. They can see and use their vision to detect targets from a distance.

Therefore, the persons dressed in dark clothes are more vulnerable. So, when you’re out in FL, try wearing lighter clothing!

4) Standing Water: Like other insects, mosquitoes are drawn to any amount of standing water, as this is where mosquitoes reproduce and lay eggs.

People frequently report a considerably higher mosquito presence following rainstorms: rain generates pools of standing water, which attracts a swarm of mosquitoes.

These mosquitoes then breed in the fresh pools of water, resulting in a breeding cycle that can result in long-term mosquito outbreaks.

5) Plants & Tall Grass: Mosquitoes love to hide in tall grass and other plants as they prefer regions with plenty of shade and humidity. So, keep plants trimmed and grass manicured to avoid making your property a mosquito refuge!

With the help of STAT Pest Control, the complete mosquito control near me in Fort Myers, FL, you get a comprehensive and safe insect control treatment for children, the elderly, and pets.

6) Consumption Of A Lot Of Potassium Salt, & Alcohol: Mosquitoes are attracted to potassium salt, and lactic acid created by your body, so avoiding salt and potassium-rich foods such as bananas, avocados, and dried fruit is beneficial.

Alcohol also causes your skin to emit a substance that attracts insects. This drink also raises body warmth, which is a major mosquito attractant. So it’s better to avoid such beverages!

You can obtain mosquito control services of STAT Pest Control in Fort Myers, FL. We protect your family from dengue, malaria, and Zika in a single service.

7) Pregnant Women: According to a study in 2000, pregnant women attract twice as many mosquitos as non-pregnant women.

This is due to pregnant women exhaling more carbon dioxide than other individuals and having higher body temperatures and more blood flowing through their bodies.

Blockhouse at Fort Myers in Florida

During the Second Seminole War, between 1835 and 1842, the U.S. Army operated Fort Dulany at Punta Rassa, at the mouth of the Caloosahatchee River. When a hurricane destroyed Fort Dulany in October 1841, army operations were moved up the Caloosahatchee River to a site named Fort Harvie. Fort Harvie was abandoned in 1842, as the Second Seminole War wound down. After a white trader was killed by Seminoles on the Peace River in 1849, the Army returned to the Caloosahatchee River in 1850. Major David E. Twiggs, then stationed at Fort Brooke (present day-Tampa), gave orders for two companies of artillery to ‘select a suitable place for the establishment of a post and immediately throw up such light works as may secure [their] stores, and remove from the Indians any temptation to which [their] isolated position may give rise.’ The new Fort Myers was built on the burned ruins of Fort Harvie. The fort was named for Brevet Colonel Abraham Charles Myers, quartermaster for the Army’s Department of Florida and future son-in-law of Major Twiggs. It covered about 139 acres (56 ha), and soon had 57 buildings, including a two-story blockhouse that was pictured in Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper, and a 1,000-foot-long (300 m) wharf at which ships could dock. Irvin Solomon notes that Fort Myers was described ‘as ‘one of the finest and largest’ forts of the Seminole Wars’. It was abandoned in 1858, at the end of the Third Seminole War.

During the American Civil War, Confederate blockade runners and cattle ranchers were based in Fort Myers. These settlers prospered through trading with the Seminole and Union soldiers.
